The Good Shepherd Food Bank has been open since the late 1980's. It is an emergency Food Bank that is open to the public from 10:00 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday.
Food boxes are given to clients who are residents of Orange County and who earn less than $271.00 a week. The Food Bank hands out between 50 and 100 boxes a week.
Because of the higher demand for food in the last few months, and in order to not run out of food, the Food Bank has needed to restrict the boxes to one per client per every 60 days. The previous limit was once every 30 days.
The main supplier of food for our Food Bank is Second Harvest Food Bank. Volunteers from the Good Shepherd Food Bank pick up food supplies at Second Harvest every Tuesday morning at 8:00 a.m. Approximately $100.00 is spent every week on whatever food supplies are available that week at Second Harvest. A smaller amount of food comes from the Government, some comes from the once a month food ingathering at Good Shepherd, and we are blessed to also be supported by St Richard's Episcopal Church in Winter Park.
The Food Bank also provides some hygiene items for those in need.
The Food Bank hands out 200 baskets each year for Thanksgiving.
We very much appreciate any donations to help sustain this ministry.
